As per a News24 report on Wednesday, eight renowned cricket stadiums in South Africa have been officially selected as venues for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, including Wanderers in Johannesburg, Kingsmead in Durban, and Newlands in Cape Town.
The 2027 World Cup, scheduled for October and November, will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of Cricket South Africa (CSA), emphasized that venue selection considered factors such as hotel room availability and proximity to airports.
Moseki described the venue selection process as scientific, factoring in hotel rooms and airport accessibility. He acknowledged the challenge of excluding venues like Benoni, JB Marks Oval, and Diamond Oval.
While South Africa and Zimbabwe have secured direct qualification, Namibia will compete in the African qualifiers.
Direct qualification for the ICC ODI rankings’ top eight teams, while the remaining four slots will be decided through global qualifier tournaments.
The tournament will feature two groups of seven teams each, with the top three from each group advancing to the Super Six stage, culminating in semi-finals and a final.
Teams will face each other once in the group stage, similar to the format of the 2003 World Cup.
