Mayank Yadav, despite having only played three matches in IPL 2024, has already caught the attention of many. He’s in contention for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup team due to his impressive speed and consistency, even though he hasn’t debuted in the IPL yet. Currently sidelined due to injury while playing for Lucknow Super Giants, selectors are closely watching his recovery.
T20 World Cup Prospects for Mayank Yadav:
While Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are frontrunners to partner with Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Yadav might not be rushed into India’s T20 World Cup starting lineup. Nonetheless, the 21-year-old is still in consideration. Selectors are interested in including him in the squad, possibly even as a net bowler to aid his development. The BCCI logistics team is already working on his visa.
“Even if he doesn’t make the final squad, we’re aiming to have him accompany the team to the USA,” a BCCI official mentioned.
Fast Bowling Contract on the Horizon:
Injuries are common in a player’s career, especially for fast bowlers. Despite this, the BCCI is planning to provide Mayank Yadav access to the National Cricket Academy’s facilities. He is expected to be offered the fast bowling contract introduced by BCCI recently. Prior to his IPL debut, Mayank Yadav had already impressed chief selector Ajit Agarkar with his speed. As the BCCI focuses on nurturing the next generation of fast bowlers, Mayank is poised to join the contract soon. This initiative offers young pacers access to all NCA facilities and a remuneration of Rs 1 Cr or Grade C compensation.
