While the Champions Trophy 2025 is still a year away, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is already laying out grand plans for the tournament. The excitement surrounding the return of an ICC event to Pakistan after 1996 is palpable. The PCB has even revealed the proposed venue for the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash, suggesting Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appears steadfast in its stance. According to a recent statement by the board’s vice-president, Rajeev Shukla, it’s premature to make decisions. Shukla emphasized that the Indian cricket team will only travel to Pakistan upon receiving government approval. Speaking to ANI, Shukla stated, “In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India tells us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India gives us permission. So we will go according to the decision of the Indian government.” PCB’s Ambitious Plans for Champions Trophy 2025 The PCB recently unveiled potential venues for the Champions Trophy 2025, indicating the board’s eagerness to host the prestigious tournament. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence in hosting the matches in Pakistan. “We’ve sent the schedule for the matches in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy,” Naqvi announced. Pending Acceptance of PCB’s Proposal Despite the PCB’s proposals, the fate of hosting matches in Pakistan remains uncertain. The board’s desire to stage all matches in Lahore will be presented in Sri Lanka in July. However, even if the International Cricket Council (ICC) approves the proposal, there’s no guarantee of acceptance from either the BCCI or the Indian government.
