Sri Lanka made a significant announcement on Tuesday, revealing Amul, one of India’s iconic dairy brands with a global presence, as their official sponsor for the T20 World Cup 2024, commencing on June 2 in the USA and the West Indies. Former champions Sri Lanka join South Africa and USA as the latest team to be sponsored by Amul for the prestigious T20 tournament.
In an official statement, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) declared, “Amul, a leading Indian milk producer with international presence, has been appointed as the ‘Official Sponsor’ of the Sri Lanka Men’s Team for the duration of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.”
This partnership marks a significant milestone for Amul as it extends its global reach into the realm of sports. Amul has a rich history of sponsoring cricket teams during ICC tournaments, previously collaborating with the New Zealand and the Netherlands national sides for the 2017 Champions Trophy and 2011 Cricket World Cup, respectively. Additionally, Amul was a sponsor of the Women’s Premier League inaugural edition.
Moreover, Amul was the principal sponsor of the Afghanistan men’s cricket team during the ODI World Cup in India last year.
The T20 World Cup 2024 witnesses the active participation of two major Indian dairy brands, Amul and Nandini. Notably, the tournament will be co-hosted by the United States of America for the first time. Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), renowned for its Nandini brand of dairy products, will sponsor Ireland and Scotland cricket teams in the tournament.
The tournament is set to unfold across three venues in the USA, namely New York, Dallas, and Florida, while six venues have been selected in the West Indies, with Barbados hosting the final on June 26.
USA will commence their campaign against Canada on June 2 in Dallas, while Sri Lanka will face off against South Africa in their opener on June 3 in New York.
