Veteran Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finisher, Dinesh Karthik, may have played his last game in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team’s exit from IPL 2024 after losing the Eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals also marked the end of one of their favorite players’ outstanding careers in the league. Heartfelt wishes poured in for the veteran, accompanied by a guard of honour from RCB players.
Dinesh Karthik’s Illustrious Career in IPL
Dinesh Karthik played for six different IPL clubs during his 17-year career. He debuted with the Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals) in their inaugural season in 2008. He then moved to Punjab in 2011 and subsequently played for the Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and RCB.
Karthik’s second spell with RCB began in 2015 after he was acquired for ₹10.5 crore. Despite struggling with the bat that season, accumulating only 141 runs in 16 matches, the resilient Tamil Nadu cricketer continued to make his presence felt. He remains one of only seven players to have featured in every edition of the IPL since its inception in 2008.
Karthik finished the current season with 326 runs in 15 matches, maintaining an average of 36.22 and a striking strike rate of 187.36.
