Rain clouds over a cricket stadium during the T20 World Cup

Looks like the rain gods are not cricket fans! After washing out all three matches in Florida, the rain is now eyeing the T20 World Cup Super 8 matches in the Caribbean. Pakistan’s dreams of qualifying were dashed by rain, and more upsets could be on the way. The weather forecast for Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, and St Vincent is anything but sunny, with rain predicted for almost all 12 Super 8 matches.

Cricket fans, especially those cheering for Team India, might be in for some disappointment. The highly anticipated India vs. Australia match on June 24 in St Lucia has a 50% chance of rain. Australia and England, two top contenders, might also see their matches affected by the unpredictable weather in the West Indies.

Was it a smart move by the ICC to choose the West Indies and the USA as hosts? Back in the 2010 T20 World Cup, rain disrupted four matches, and history seems to be repeating itself. So far, five matches have been impacted by rain, with four washouts. The England vs. Namibia match in Antigua was delayed for nearly four hours due to a wet outfield, which might become a common occurrence in the Super 8.

Barbados Weather Forecast

The Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, is set to host three Super 8 matches and the T20 World Cup final. There’s a glimmer of hope for the India vs. Afghanistan game on June 20, with only a 10-20% chance of rain. However, the matches on June 22 and 23 between the USA, West Indies, and England could be rain-affected, with a 40-54% chance of showers.

  • June 20: India vs. Afghanistan – 10% rain chance
  • June 22: USA vs. West Indies – 40% rain chance
  • June 23: USA vs. England – 54% rain chance
  • June 29: Final – 53% rain chance

St Lucia Weather Forecast

The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia will also face rain threats, especially for the blockbuster India vs. Australia match on June 24, with over a 50% chance of rain. Unlike Barbados, the ground here doesn’t have full coverage, making delays likely if rain hits.

  • June 20: West Indies vs. England – 20% rain chance
  • June 21: England vs. South Africa – 20% rain chance
  • June 24: India vs. Australia – 50% rain chance

Antigua Weather Forecast

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua is no stranger to rain disruptions, already causing delays in the England vs. Namibia match. With four Super 8 matches lined up, rain chances hover around 20-25%.

  • June 19: South Africa vs. USA – 23% rain chance
  • June 21: Australia vs. Bangladesh – 25% rain chance
  • June 22: India vs. Bangladesh – 20% rain chance
  • June 24: South Africa vs. West Indies – 25% rain chance

St Vincent Weather Forecast

Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent, will host two Super 8 matches. The Australia vs. Afghanistan game on June 23 has a 52% chance of rain, which could shake up the Super 8 Group 1 standings if it’s a washout.

  • June 23: Afghanistan vs. Australia – 52% rain chance
  • June 25: Afghanistan vs. Bangladesh – 47% rain chance
