Even though Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20Is, their journey in white-ball cricket is far from over. New India Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir believes that with the right fitness, the dynamic duo could compete in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Following their ICC T20 World Cup triumph, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma decided to step down from T20Is. However, they remain committed to ODIs and Test cricket. Gambhir shares their optimism about their future in the game.
2027 ODI World Cup in Sight for Rohit-Kohli
Gambhir showered praises on the legendary batsmen during a press conference, emphasizing their consistent performance on big stages. He believes they still have a lot of cricket left in them.
“They have proven their worth on the big stage repeatedly. Both have a lot of cricket left in them. If they maintain their fitness, they could even feature in the 2027 World Cup,” Gambhir stated. “They are still world-class players, and any team would be lucky to have them.”
Currently, Rohit and Kohli are focused on the World Test Championship and the ICC Champions Trophy. If they continue to stay in form and maintain their fitness, participating in the 2027 ODI World Cup is a realistic possibility. Gambhir’s endorsement underscores their exceptional talent and enduring value to any team.
