Rohit Sharma’s Special Day Turns Emotional at Wankhede
Wankhede Stadium witnessed an unforgettable moment as Rohit Sharma’s stand was officially unveiled—marking a deeply emotional chapter in Indian cricket. With the iconic venue as the backdrop, Rohit stepped down from the dais to bring his parents and wife, Ritika, to the forefront of the ceremony.
At the heart of the event was family—true to Rohit’s character. As Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis stood ready, Rohit’s parents, Purnima and Gurunath, pressed the ceremonial buzzer alongside him, igniting fireworks that reflected both celebration and nostalgia. Ritika, visibly emotional, tried to hide behind her father-in-law, but her tears didn’t go unnoticed. It was a moment of “khushi ke aansoo” that gripped everyone present.
“I am grateful for all the sacrifices my family has made,” Rohit said, holding back tears in his speech before the unveiling.

A Dream Beyond Dreams
The Mumbai Cricket Association not only honored Rohit Sharma, but also paid tribute to legends like Ajit Wadekar and Sharad Pawar by naming stands after them. But for Rohit, the day was about more than just recognition. It was a boyhood dream—realized.
“I never imagined this. As a kid, I just wanted to play for Mumbai and India. To now have my name among cricketing greats—it’s unreal,” he said.
Despite retiring from T20Is and Test cricket, Rohit made it clear that he’s not done yet. “I still play one format. Playing here on the 21st for Mumbai Indians will be surreal. But to play for India at Wankhede again—that’s the dream.”
Wankhede and Rohit: A Story Written in Runs
This wasn’t just any stadium for the 36-year-old. Wankhede was where dreams were born. “It’s special because it’s Wankhede. The memories here are endless. This moment will stay with me forever.”
Even as he basked in the glory, Rohit reminded everyone he’s still on duty. “MI is here waiting for me to wrap up this speech so we can start training,” he joked.
Teammates & Tributes
India and MI teammate Suryakumar Yadav summed up the sentiments with a heartfelt Instagram post:
“From finisher to opener to captain—you’ve changed the game, the dressing room, and the team. You deserve every bit of this. Wankhede just became more iconic.”
Chief Minister Fadnavis added, “If MCA wants a new stadium, we’ll allocate land. Rohit deserves that kind of legacy.”
This emotional rollercoaster at Wankhede wasn’t just a tribute to a cricketer—it was a celebration of a son, a leader, and a dreamer. And yes, Cricket Army salutes this legend.
