Babar Azam is poised to lead Pakistan in this year’s Men’s T20 World Cup after being appointed as the captain for white-ball formats, a decision backed unanimously by the PCB’s selection committee. The PCB confirmed on social media that Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has entrusted Babar Azam with the responsibility of leading the Pakistan men’s cricket team in ODI and T20I formats. Azam had stepped down from the captaincy following Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India last year, where they failed to progress to the knockout stages despite securing four wins in nine games. During his absence, Shaheen Shah Afridi took over the T20I captaincy, while Shan Masood led the team in red-ball cricket after their ODI World Cup campaign in November last year.
