The Champions League was widely regarded as one of the premier cricket leagues globally, featuring top franchises from prominent leagues such as the IPL and BBL. Over six seasons, the tournament showcased competitive matches before its discontinuation in 2015. Inaugurated in 2009, four seasons were hosted in India, while two took place in South Africa. Powerhouses like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians clinched the title twice, alongside New South Wales and Sydney Sixers.
Nick Cummins discussed the potential revival of the league, acknowledging the challenges of finding a suitable window amidst packed cricket schedules. He highlighted plans to commence with the women’s edition and emphasized the ongoing discussions between major cricket boards. Speaking to the media, he elaborated:
Nick Cummins disclosed that Cricket Australia is receptive to the idea of reviving the Champions League, collaborating with the BCCI to identify a suitable window in the FTP. He stated:
“I’m consistently engaging with Nick Hockley, CEO of Cricket Australia, regarding the Champions League because I believe its resurgence is significant. Discussions are ongoing. Perhaps, Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, could provide further insights. However, from an Australian cricket standpoint, we are fully supportive of the Champions League concept. The challenge lies in aligning it within the FTP schedule, yet I see it as a crucial step forward in cricket’s evolution.”
