Australian batsman Travis Head had a standout day at the IPL 2024 auction, securing a spot with the 2016 champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad, for INR 6.80 crore. Known for his crucial role in Australia’s victorious 2023 ODI World Cup, where he earned Player of the Match in the semi-final and final, Head is set to showcase his skills in the upcoming IPL season.

In response to joining Sunrisers Hyderabad, Head expressed his excitement in a video message, praising the team’s talented players and the passionate Orange Army. Having previously played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he aims to improve his performance with the new team.

Fellow Australians Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were also top picks, with Starc joining Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24.75 crore and Cummins signing with Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crore. Starc, in a video message, expressed his thrill to play for KKR and experience the electric atmosphere at Eden Gardens.

Following the IPL 2024 auction, the trade window will open on December 20, closing 30 days before IPL 17 begins in March, April, and May. This season presents a significant opportunity for young players to make an impact and potentially secure spots in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, scheduled for June and July in the West Indies and the USA.
