Changing the Game in America

Johnny Grave’s vision to grow cricket in USA is bold, clear, and packed with ambition. As the new CEO of Major League Cricket (MLC), he’s entering the world’s biggest sports market with one goal—make cricket mainstream in the United States.

Taking charge just as the 2025 MLC season is about to be announced, Grave shared his strategy to make MLC a world-class T20 league. And yes, Johnny Grave’s vision to grow cricket in USA isn’t just about a league—it’s about building a cricket ecosystem from the ground up.

From West Indies to the US

Grave brings deep cricketing experience, having led Cricket West Indies and held top commercial roles in the UK. His new challenge? Turning a growing sport into a permanent part of American culture.

“The ownership group has a billion-dollar vision for this,” Grave explained. “That means stadiums, night matches, and a schedule that fits the global cricket calendar.” Season 3 kicks off June 12 with 34 matches across three fully-equipped venues.

Expanding Teams, Growing Fans

Currently a six-team league, MLC will grow to eight by 2027, and eventually to ten teams. The model shifts from central control to team co-ownership, similar to NFL and NBA structures. That means teams will build their own stadiums, create local fan bases, and engage communities year-round.

“Cricket can’t be a seasonal event,” Grave said. “We want grassroots programs, Minor League hubs, and domestic talent pathways that work all year.”

Domestic Talent and Olympic Dreams

While international stars draw attention, Grave is focused on developing US talent. Minor League Cricket already has 25 regional teams. The goal? Feed talent into MLC and Team USA—and get both men’s and women’s teams ready for Olympic success at LA 2028.

“We want kids to believe they can play for Team USA,” Grave said. “We’re building that path.”

Media Power and Community Connection

Grave called Willow TV one of MLC’s greatest advantages. It offers unmatched cricket coverage in the US and will broadcast every MLC match live. Combined with MLC’s dual fan approach—core cricket lovers and new curious fans—Grave is confident about growing the game coast to coast.

Big Brands, Big Goals

Grave sees the US as the most commercially advanced sports market. With Cognizant as title sponsor and several brand partnerships already in play, the commercial momentum is real.

“Outside of the IPL, we aim to become the second-largest league in cricket when it comes to sponsorship revenue,” he said.
