Pakistan cricket players undergoing fitness tests ahead of the Bangladesh Test series

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Bangladesh’s travel to Pakistan for the 2-match Test series, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pushing ahead with preparations. The PCB has announced that players in the running for the series, including those with central contracts, will undergo multiple fitness tests.

Why the Uncertainty?
Political turmoil in Bangladesh has cast doubt on the series, set to start on August 21. The Bangladesh A side was supposed to travel to Pakistan as a prelude to the Test series, but this trip has already been delayed. Additionally, the Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on October 3 in Bangladesh, is also facing uncertainty due to the unrest.

Fitness Tests: A Crucial Criterion
Despite these issues, the PCB remains focused on player fitness. Players will gather on August 9 to undergo five to six different fitness tests. This initiative follows a directive issued last month after Pakistan’s T20 World Cup exit, emphasizing fitness as a key selection criterion alongside batting and bowling performance.

Central Contracts on the Line
The stakes are high, as the PCB is holding off on renewing central contracts until players pass these fitness tests. This means that even previously contracted players must meet the required fitness standards to secure their contracts for the upcoming season.

Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test Series Schedule:

Match Date Venue
1st Test August 21-25 Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
2nd Test August 30-September 3 National Stadium, Karachi
