Rishabh Pant limps off field after knee injury during IND vs NZ Test

India’s star wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, faced a concerning moment during the ongoing IND vs NZ 1st Test when he limped off the field after a hit to his knee. The incident occurred off a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, striking Pant on the same knee that underwent surgery earlier in 2023 after his unfortunate car accident. The cricket world was left holding its breath, waiting for news on Pant’s condition.

Rohit Sharma Gives Injury Update on Rishabh Pant

After the day’s play, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma addressed the media, providing some insights into Pant’s injury. Rohit revealed that Pant had developed a swelling on his right knee—the same knee that required surgery after his car crash. Rohit emphasized the team’s cautious approach, stating they didn’t want to take unnecessary risks with Pant’s health. The Indian camp remains hopeful about Pant’s return to action but is taking it day by day.

“He’s got swelling on the same knee. We’re monitoring him closely and won’t push him to play unless he’s fully ready. We’ll have to wait and see how he feels,” said Rohit.

Pant’s Road to Recovery

Pant’s journey back to cricket has been nothing short of inspiring. After being sidelined for over a year due to his horrific accident in December 2022, the left-hander fought through a lengthy rehab process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He made his much-anticipated return in IPL 2024 and was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad, where his contributions were crucial. Pant’s re-entry into Test cricket came during the series against Bangladesh, reaffirming his position as India’s first-choice keeper.

However, this latest knee injury casts a shadow of uncertainty on whether he will take the field again in this match. Pant was replaced by Dhruv Jurel during the game, while the team and fans alike await further updates on his recovery.
