India’s pace sensation, Mohammed Shami, has finally put an end to the swirling rumours about his supposed injury. After a day full of speculation that he might miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Shami took to social media to clear the air, firmly stating that the news is entirely false. Earlier reports had claimed that the fast bowler was dealing with “swollen knees” and could be out of action for six to eight weeks. But Shami isn’t having any of it!

Addressing the rumours, Shami took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he wrote a strong message:
“Why these type of baseless rumours? I’m working hard and trying my level best to recover. Neither the BCCI nor I have mentioned that I am out of the Border-Gavaskar series. I request the public to stop paying attention to such news from unofficial sources. Please stop and don’t spread such fake fake fake & fake news, especially without my statement.”

Ready for Action

Shami’s fiery response has fans breathing a sigh of relief! He’s been at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), recovering from his Achilles tendon surgery, but recent reports suggest he’s already started bowling in the nets. And, by the sounds of it, he’s itching to get back into action. Although he may miss India’s upcoming Test series against New Zealand, there’s a good chance he’ll be back at his best when the Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off in November.

What’s Next for Team India?

India will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series starting October 16. While Shami might not be available for the first match, the pace troika of Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj is expected to come together for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they’ll take on a formidable Australian side. Fans can expect some intense battles, with Shami looking to make a big impact.
