Mohammed Shami returns to Team India for IND vs AUS Test series mid-tour

Mohammed Shami Set to Rejoin Team India

Team India’s pace spearhead, Mohammed Shami, is expected to bolster the squad during the IND vs AUS Test series. After recovering from an ankle injury that sidelined him post the 2023 ODI World Cup, Shami made an impressive return in the Ranji Trophy, claiming four wickets in Bengal’s clash against Madhya Pradesh. His comeback couldn’t be better timed, with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy heating up.

When Will Shami Join?

According to Shami’s childhood coach, Badruddin, the pacer will rejoin the Indian camp following the second Test in Adelaide, scheduled from December 6. “Now that Shami is back and has proved his fitness, he will be pivotal for the latter half of the series,” Badruddin shared.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off on November 22 in Perth, where India will look to establish dominance in the five-match Test series. While Shami wasn’t initially named in the squad due to his recovery, his mid-series inclusion is a strategic move to strengthen India’s bowling arsenal for the challenging Australian conditions.

Shami’s Road to Recovery

Shami’s journey back to the field wasn’t without hurdles. Initially slated to return during the fourth round of Ranji matches, his recovery extended due to post-surgery complications. After intensive rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Shami proved his readiness with an excellent performance in the domestic circuit.

The decision to include Shami was made after consultations between the selection panel, medical experts, and team management, including Ajit Agarkar, Nitin Patel, and skipper Rohit Sharma.

What Shami Brings to the Table

As the series progresses, India will rely heavily on Shami’s experience and ability to exploit bounce and seam movement. His addition not only strengthens the bowling lineup but also adds a psychological edge in the high-stakes matches ahead.

Fans can expect to see Shami back in action as early as the Adelaide Test, ready to add firepower to the Indian pace attack.

Looking Ahead

With a refreshed Shami in the mix, Team India’s chances of clinching the Border-Gavaskar Trophy have received a significant boost.
