Recreated Content body: The BCCI has revealed the squad for India’s tour of Zimbabwe, and Shubman Gill will be leading the young guns. As skipper, Gill is set to guide a fresh and dynamic team, including four debutants. Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Nitish Reddy, and Tushar Deshpande have earned their first India call-up after impressive performances in the IPL 2024 season.
BCCI picks IPL 2024 stars for Zimbabwe tour While most of the squad members shone in the IPL, four players didn’t have the best season. Rinku Singh, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravi Bishnoi underperformed compared to their known capabilities. Rinku managed to make it to India’s reserve list for the T20 World Cup, though Bishnoi missed out.
Jurel struggled under pressure, especially with the wicketkeeper spot being highly contested. Washington Sundar, returning from a long-term injury, only participated in two matches. Despite these hiccups, the majority of the squad excelled, with six players securing spots in the T20 World Cup main squad or reserves.
Youth over experience The squad is notably youthful, with Mukesh Kumar being the oldest at 30. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, and captain Shubman Gill bring the most experience. Dhruv Jurel, who debuted in Test cricket earlier this year, is set for his T20I debut.
Initial reports suggested that Suryakumar Yadav or Hardik Pandya might lead the side, but both requested rest after a demanding IPL season followed by the T20 World Cup. This led to Shubman Gill taking the helm.
