The T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to kick off on June 1, just days after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. This year’s tournament will take place in the West Indies and the United States. India’s last T20 World Cup victory was in 2013, and the team is now preparing for the upcoming tournament, with the selection committee closely monitoring players’ performances in the IPL. With the ICC’s squad submission deadline set for May 1, it’s expected that the 15-member T20 World Cup team will be announced in the last week of April, as reported by NDTV. While official names are yet to be revealed, several probable players have been identified.

According to a report from Cricbuzz, Virat Kohli’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad is considered certain, given his outstanding form in the ongoing IPL season. Kohli currently holds the prestigious Orange Cap for scoring the highest runs in the league, although concerns have been raised about his strike rate. The report also suggests a potential comeback for Rishabh Pant in the World Cup squad.

Other players likely to be selected for the T20 World Cup, as per the NDTV report, include Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mayank Yadav. Additionally, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah could also find a place in the squad.

On April 4, former England fast bowler Stuart Broad expressed his belief that Indian pace sensation Mayank Yadav doesn’t need to go through domestic cricket to toughen up his body for international cricket. Broad emphasized the value of learning on the job in high-pressure situations like the IPL. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad advocated for the inclusion of Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rinku Singh in the T20 World Cup squad, omitting mention of Hardik Pandya, who has been struggling in the ongoing IPL season. Prasad highlighted Dube’s striking ability against spinners, Suryakumar’s prowess as a T20 international batter, and Rinku’s exceptional finishing skills as reasons for their potential selection.
