AB de Villiers, former captain of the South Africa National Cricket Team, has lauded Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, hailing him as one of the best leg-spinners in the history of the game. In a video on his official YouTube channel, de Villiers praised Chahal’s attacking mindset and ability to seek breakthroughs even on surfaces that offer little assistance to spinners. He commended Chahal’s optimism and positive attitude, traits that contribute to his success as a bowler.
Chahal, who has not represented India in Test cricket but has been highly impactful in white-ball formats, has played 72 ODIs and 80 T20Is, claiming 121 and 96 wickets, respectively. Chahal credited his confidence boost to playing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He emphasized backing his skills and maintaining a consistent approach across different grounds.
In the same video, Chahal shared insights into his bowling strategy in ODIs, emphasizing the importance of picking up wickets in the middle overs to disrupt the opposition’s rhythm. Despite not being part of India’s squad for the ICC World Cup 2023, Chahal has returned to the ODI setup for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa.
