In the latest update since the IPL 2025 suspension, the BCCI shortlists venues for IPL 2025 to resume the tournament if they get the green light from the Indian government. With just 16 matches left — including 12 league games and 4 playoffs — the board is preparing for a potential May comeback, aiming to wrap things up before the World Test Championship final on June 11.
As per an ESPNcricinfo report, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad are the three cities the BCCI has picked to host the remaining matches. However, this change might cost Eden Gardens its chance to host the grand finale, as initially planned. Under the original schedule, Eden Gardens was set to host Qualifier 2 and the Final, but now it’s reportedly off the list — for now.
The call to resume the season in May is still pending a go-ahead from the government. Franchise insiders have hinted that the BCCI shared this tentative venue plan informally last Friday. However, if the situation doesn’t stabilize quickly, the entire remainder of IPL 2025 might be pushed later in the year.
One of the biggest challenges in a May restart? Convincing overseas players to return. Many have already flown home following last week’s geopolitical flare-up between India and Pakistan. With international fixtures and player safety concerns, a full-strength IPL may be tough to pull off.
So far, 57 matches have been completed. The 58th — between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals — was abandoned midway at 10.1 overs due to security reasons. Whether that match will be replayed remains unclear.
