Amidst speculation and conflicting reports, the details of India’s solitary warm-up fixture for the T20 World Cup 2024 have finally emerged. As per ESPNCricinfo, India will face Bangladesh in their only practice match on June 1 at Eisenhower Park in New York. This encounter precedes the much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan at the same venue on June 9.
The decision to play only one warm-up match stems from the team’s return after a two-month stint in the IPL 2024. Cricbuzz initially reported India’s preference for a single practice game, citing logistical reasons and the players’ fatigue following the IPL.
Chris Tetley, ICC’s head of events, confirmed that tickets for the India vs Pakistan game are still available, with limited opportunities for fans to purchase tickets for all matches. Despite the anticipation surrounding the high-profile clash, a sellout is yet to be achieved, leaving room for last-minute purchases.
Regarding the departure dates, the Indian contingent will leave in two batches, with the first group departing on May 25, comprising players not involved in the IPL playoffs. The remaining players will depart after the IPL final, likely on May 26.
India’s journey in the T20 World Cup kicks off on June 5 against Ireland, followed by matches against Pakistan on June 9, the United States on June 12, and Canada on June 15, all scheduled to take place in Florida. Subsequently, the action will shift to the West Indies for the Super Eight stage.
As the countdown to the T20 World Cup begins, fans eagerly await India’s performance in the warm-up match against Bangladesh, hoping for a promising start to their campaign.
