South Africa made a surprise move on Friday as they named Rassie van der Dussen as captain for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies. The move comes out of the blue as Dussen hasn’t been named in the T20 World Cup squad. The Proteas will take on WI in a three-match T20I series starting from May 23.
IPL stars missing, van der Dussen to lead SA in series vs WI Dussen will lead the side in the absence of the side’s regular skipper Aiden Markram, who is currently a part of the IPL 2024. Markram is unlikely to feature in the series against West Indies, given the fact that he will be a crucial part of SRH in the playoffs. Heinrich Klaasen is also expected to miss the series against the Men in Maroon.
Quinton de Kock, Gerald Coetzee, and Anrich Nortje – all stars whose teams have been knocked out of IPL 2024 – have been added to the squad. Meanwhile, all-rounder Tristan Stubbs has been ignored surprisingly after his stellar performance in IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals.
