With the IPL 2024 keeping the Indian team occupied, their preparation for the T20 World Cup is facing a setback, as they are set to play only one warm-up match. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the BCCI has opted to hold the practice game in New York, ahead of their clash against Pakistan on June 9.

ICC and Cricket West Indies’ Proposal Contrary to the BCCI’s decision, the ICC and Cricket West Indies had suggested a warm-up fixture in Florida. However, considering the logistical challenges and the players’ preferences, the New York venue was finalized. This decision aligns with the team’s schedule post-IPL, avoiding unnecessary travel disruptions.

Commercial Significance of Warm-Up Matches India’s practice matches hold substantial commercial value, reflecting the growing importance of warm-up fixtures in international cricket. In comparison, teams like Pakistan and England, gearing up for T20 series, are slated to play two warm-up games on May 25-26.

Departure Logistics Initially slated for May 21, the departure date for Team India has been rescheduled to May 25-26, accommodating players participating in the IPL playoffs. The first batch will depart first, followed by those involved in the IPL final.

India’s T20 World Cup Itinerary India’s T20 World Cup journey includes four league matches, commencing with fixtures against Ireland, Pakistan, and USA in New York. Their final league match against Canada is scheduled in Florida on June 15.
