Sunrisers Hyderabad faces a setback as Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been sidelined from IPL 2024 due to a left heel injury. Known for his consistent performances with both bat and ball, Hasaranga’s absence will be deeply felt by the team.
The decision to withdraw from the tournament stems from a swelling in Hasaranga’s heel, for which he has been receiving injections. With the T20 World Cup looming, Hasaranga aims to resolve the issue to ensure his fitness for the global event, as confirmed by SLC CEO Ashley de Silva to the Sunday Times Newspaper via NewsWireLK.
Despite enduring pain, Hasaranga participated in the series against Bangladesh earlier this month. His remarkable stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 season, where he claimed 26 wickets at an economy rate of 7.54, made him a sought-after player. At the IPL 2024 Auctions, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired his services for INR 1.5 Cr.
In Hasaranga’s absence, Sunrisers Hyderabad faces GT in their twelfth IPL 2024 encounter. Hoping to replicate their previous high-scoring performance, SRH aims to make the most of their batting prowess. Conversely, GT seeks to capitalize on home advantage.
