India’s T20I squad for the Bangladesh series is out! With the second Test against Bangladesh ending on October 1 and the New Zealand Test series starting on October 16, some players who feature in both formats are likely to be rested.
We saw a new-age T20I team in Sri Lanka, with Suryakumar Yadav taking over the captaincy and Shubman Gill as the vice-captain. However, there will be changes for the India vs Bangladesh T20I series due to the upcoming Test matches.
Jaiswal and Pant Rest, Gaikwad Dropped
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been playing a lot of cricket this year, will be rested for the Test series. Rishabh Pant, who has been playing in all three formats continuously, will also take a break.
Abhishek Sharma, who impressed in his debut series against Zimbabwe, will likely replace Jaiswal in the 15-man squad. Unfortunately, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who batted at number three in Harare, might not be included. Ishan Kishan, another left-handed wicketkeeper, is expected to replace Pant. Sanju Samson, despite his recent struggles in Sri Lanka, is likely to retain his spot.
Gill, Suryakumar, and Rinku to Continue
Shubman Gill, as the new white-ball vice-captain, is expected to feature in the T20I squad. Suryakumar Yadav, the captain and a one-format specialist, will also be included. Rinku Singh will retain his spot as India’s designated finisher.
Flurry of All-Rounders
India is likely to include five all-rounders in the squad: Hardik Pandya, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar. This will allow for multiple bowling options, with Dube and Parag able to roll their arms over if needed.
Three Bowlers
Ravi Bishnoi will be the frontline spinner, with Parag and Sundar as his spin partners. Rinku, Suryakumar, and Abhishek can also contribute as part-time spinners. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to be rested.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj won’t play either. Arshdeep Singh will lead the bowling unit, with Harshit Rana and Mukesh Kumar as the other fast bowlers. Khaleel Ahmed is unlikely to feature as he is similar to Arshdeep.
