No Adam Zampa for IND vs AUS 1st T20I as Australia names Tanveer Sangha replacement for the Canberra match

The Australian cricket team has suffered a minor setback ahead of the IND vs AUS 1st T20I, as premier leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the opening match. The clash, scheduled for October 29 at Canberra’s Manuka Oval, will see Tanveer Sangha replacing the senior spinner in the squad.

Zampa, who featured in the third ODI in Sydney, went wicketless while conceding 50 runs, and is now set to miss the start of the T20I series due to personal reasons.

Adam Zampa out of IND vs AUS 1st T20I

As confirmed by multiple reports, Adam Zampa will sit out the first T20I against Suryakumar Yadav’s India. The 32-year-old leg-spinner is reportedly staying back in Australia for personal commitments — primarily to be with his family for the birth of his second child.

While the team management hasn’t made an official announcement yet, the decision aligns with Zampa’s absence during the first ODI in Perth earlier this month, where he was unavailable for similar reasons.

Tanveer Sangha named replacement

In Zampa’s absence, Tanveer Sangha has been drafted into the squad and is expected to feature in the playing XI for the opening match. The young leg-spinner, who has impressed in both domestic and franchise cricket, is seen as Australia’s next big spin option in white-ball formats.

Sangha’s inclusion also allows Australia to maintain their spin balance while offering a fresh option against a spin-savvy Indian lineup. Known for his quick arm action and control, Sangha could be a key weapon on Canberra’s relatively slower pitch.

Australia’s squad depth remains strong

Despite Zampa’s absence, Australia still boasts a balanced squad. The bowling attack will likely rotate across the five-match series, with Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Ellis, and Sean Abbott covering the pace department, while Matthew Kuhnemann and Tanveer Sangha provide spin support.

The series will also see the return of Glenn Maxwell from the third T20I onwards, adding both firepower and bowling flexibility.

Zampa is expected to rejoin the squad later in the series, depending on the personal situation.

The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will use this series to fine-tune combinations ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. The spotlight will also be on Hardik Pandya’s replacement options, with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shivam Dube likely to get extended runs.

IND vs AUS T20I schedule

31 October 2nd T20I Melbourne
2 November 3rd T20I Hobart
6 November 4th T20I Gold Coast
8 November 5th T20I Brisbane

The five-match T20I series serves as a key build-up for both sides ahead of the next year’s global tournaments.

What Zampa’s absence means for Australia

Adam Zampa’s absence will test Australia’s spin depth. Over the past two years, Zampa has been their go-to bowler in T20Is, often delivering breakthroughs during the middle overs. His economy and experience in Indian conditions make him a key asset — and Sangha now has the perfect opportunity to showcase his talent on a big stage.

As both sides prepare for a long T20 run-up toward the World Cup 2026, these early games could decide who cements their place in the final squad.
